How this fits your own daily target

Ingredients

  • 30 g rolled oats (use certified gluten-free if needed)
  • 20 g peanut butter
  • 8 g honey
  • 15 g raisins

Method

  1. Mix the oats, peanut butter, honey and raisins in a bowl until they hold together. Warm the peanut butter for ten seconds if it is stiff.
  2. Roll into four balls, pressing firmly.
  3. Chill for at least 20 minutes to firm up.

What this plate gives you

The 303 calories are the whole batch, which makes three or four bites, so one bite is about 80 to 100 calories; the peanut butter is the 12 g of fat and the oats and raisins the 43 g of carbohydrate. It is a 15 percent slice of a 2,000-calorie day if you eat the lot. There is no baking: press the mix together, chill it for ten minutes, roll it.

Swaps

  • A scoop of protein powder in the mix: about 20 g more protein for the batch.
  • Chopped dark chocolate for the raisins: about the same calories.
  • Chia seeds added: about 3 g more fibre.

Keeping it

The bites keep a week in a sealed box in the fridge and a month in the freezer.
