How this fits your own daily target

Ingredients

  • 1 scoop whey protein powder
  • 250 ml skimmed milk
  • 60 g bananas

Method

  1. Put the milk, protein powder and banana in a blender.
  2. Blend until smooth. Add ice for a colder, thicker shake.

What this plate gives you

A scoop of whey and 250 ml of skimmed milk are about 32 g of protein between them for under 200 calories, which is why this is a 33 g snack at 246 calories, 12 percent of a 2,000-calorie day, with 1 g of fat. The banana is the 28 g of carbohydrate. Sixty grams of banana is about half of one; a whole one adds 50 calories and the shake is the better for it if the day allows.

Swaps

  • Soy protein and soy milk: about the same numbers, dairy-free.
  • Frozen banana: the same numbers, a thicker shake.
  • A spoon of cocoa: about 10 calories more.

Keeping it

Drink it within the hour. Whey separates and banana browns.
