How this fits your own daily target

Ingredients

  • 60 g turkey breast (cooked weight)
  • 20 g cheddar cheese
  • 60 g cucumber

Method

  1. Cut the cucumber and the cheddar into batons.
  2. Lay a baton of each on a slice of turkey and roll it up. Repeat.

What this plate gives you

Sixty grams of sliced turkey breast is about 17 g of protein and the cheddar 5 g, for 179 calories, under 9 percent of a 2,000-calorie day, with 3 g of carbohydrate, the lowest of the snacks after the eggs. The cheddar is measured at 20 g because it carries 8 g of the fat; the turkey carries almost none. Roll a strip of cucumber inside and it stops being a plate of cold cuts.

Swaps

  • Chicken breast: the same numbers.
  • Cottage cheese spread inside: about the same protein, less fat.
  • Mustard inside: no change to the numbers.

Keeping it

Rolled, they keep a day in the fridge; the turkey keeps to its date on its own.
